Khlong Thom Hot Spring

Cascading waterfalls flowing into smooth stone pools heated by geothermal springs. The water inside these natural hot tubs averages around 35-40°C and contain restorative mineral salts to invigorate the body, mind, and soul.

Getting comfy in these jungle-surrounded rocky pools requires some skill as the surface can be both slippery and sharp. Reaching the hot springs from the park entrance requires a 10-minute walk under the hot sun or short buggy ride for an additional fee. Cool off by following your blissful soak with a quick splash in the nearby stream.

Insider Tips For Khlong Thom Hot Spring

  • The hot springs are difficult to enjoy when overcrowded so avoid visiting on weekends and holidays.
  • Bring waterproof rubber shoes to wear into the springs to protect your feet from the sharp rocky surface.
  • Don't soak in the hot springs for over 20 minutes at a time. The high levels of sulfur and hot water temperature can cause dizziness, dehydration or overheating.
  • Don't brave the hot tropical sun immediately after exiting the hot springs. Cool down in the chilly stream below the springs first.
  • Buggy service available from the entrance gate to the hot springs for ฿20 (USD$0.55) per person

Backstory

This saline hot spring has long been respected as a holy site by Thai locals. In 1975, locals constructed an access road so more people could visit and pay their respects. In the early 2000s, a parking lot and facilities were constructed to accommodate the growing number of visitors. More facilities, like man-made pools, food stalls, and restrooms were added in 2006.

Etiquette

Do:
  • Wear swimwear that is appropriate and non-provocative.
  • Respect nearby visitors and ensure they have a clear path in and out of the springs.
  • Keep an eye on your belongings or take turns watching them with your family or friends.
Don't:
  • Litter or leave any belongings behind.
  • Stay in the hot water too long or get overheated.

Scorecard

Best Parts:
  • Refreshing warm water to unwind in.
  • Relaxing atmosphere under a lush, green jungle.
  • Health benefits of the mineral salts.
Could Be Better:
  • Crowds make it difficult to enjoy the springs at times.
  • Slippery surface with sharp rocks in some places.
  • Lack of shade along the walking path from the main gate.
  • Scarce restrooms and facilities. Existing restrooms are not always clean.
