How to Combine Work and Leisure: A Guide to Remote Work While on Vacation

Guest article by

Have you ever dreamed of combining work and leisure? Or, for example, work directly from the beach?

In our age, there are technologies that allow you to comfortably communicate with clients, subordinates, and colleagues even on the other side of the planet, and inspire confidence that it is still possible to combine business with leisure. Let's figure out what needs to be done in this regard.

Preparing for remote work

First of all, you need to be able to work remotely - that is, you must have a type of income that will allow you to work anywhere in the world, as long as there is Internet and a telephone or laptop there. For example, such professions as trading and investing are suitable. Moreover, there is now a lot of different literature and information on the Internet, where you can learn to trade Forex, learn the Ideal Forex Times, and, let's say, start passively earning money right from the beach.

When you go on vacation, copy onto your personal laptop or tablet all the necessary documents that you think may be needed during your departure. Take care of setting up all remote access to corporate email, private business chats, etc.

Organizing communication with colleagues

Warn key partners and colleagues that you will have to communicate remotely for some time. Discuss in advance the method of this communication (Skype, email, etc.), and make sure that these channels are configured and working on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Also, set a clear schedule for business contacts so you don't have to worry about checking email while jet skiing.

If you see that business correspondence on the same issue via email is dragging on and you misunderstand the interlocutor, connect a video call. Sometimes the opportunity to look into each other's eyes, even through a computer monitor, resolves the issue much faster than dozens of emails. But don't even think about going on a video call directly from the beach. This is not entirely correct in relation to partners and colleagues located in a metropolis scorched by the sun. The sight of you in a swimming suit against the backdrop of sea waves can arouse envy and interfere with the solution of a business issue.

Organization of work

During vacation, it is ideal to plan several hours of work during the siesta period (from 11:00 to 15:00), when it is hot on the beach and it will be even pleasant to work in a cool hotel lobby or an air-conditioned room in a cozy cafe. Combine this type of work with drinking a non-alcoholic cocktail, or smoothie, or tasting local cuisine. Even while working, you still have the feeling that you are on vacation. In the morning and afternoon, make it a rule not to think about work and teach your clients, colleagues, and subordinates not to bother you at this time.

For convenience, start your day with the hardest tasks that require more time or concentration. It is believed that in the morning hours, our brain is most productive and ready to cope with complex tasks, while in the afternoon it will be harder for you. Also, completing a large, labor-intensive task in the morning gives a charge of vivacity and satisfaction - and this gives strength for new achievements.

Expand your network of contacts

Don't miss the opportunity to make business contacts while on vacation. In any country, you can meet potential business partners. In a relaxed holiday atmosphere, the acquaintance will be stronger, and the person will be more loyal and friendly towards you, which can bring unexpected dividends in the future. Moreover, it is better to prefer "friendship" on social networks to the traditional exchange of business cards. Experience shows that renewing an acquaintance is much easier this way than making a "cold" call using a business card. Receiving a message from you on a social network, a potential partner immediately sees your avatar, perhaps even a photo from a joint vacation.

And finally, so that during your vacation you have enough energy for both rest and work, lead a healthy lifestyle. To do this, do not indulge too much in alcoholic drinks, do not overeat at night, eat more vegetables and fruits, which are usually offered in abundance in resort towns, and maintain a healthy sleep regime. After all, a vacation is, first and foremost, a vacation. Take a break from unhealthy calories and lack of sleep.
