Feast your eyes on this award-winning 90-minute dance performance at the Nusa Dua Performing Arts Theatre. Devdan: Treasures of the Archipelago is a fun-filled way to absorb Indonesian culture as tradition-inspired dances unfold to choreographed music and lighting effects. Around 40 dancers dressed in intricately designed costumes and authentic headdresses depict folklore stories originating from Bali, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Papua.
Each island's tradition, although very different, is cleverly blended through the story of two kids finding a mysterious treasure chest in the jungle. Each dance is explained through subtitles on screens below the stage in Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, and English.
There's nothing slow or sedate about Devdan. Its dancers energetically perform gymnastics, circus aerials, leaps, and battle scene re-enactments as they unite traditional and modern dance.

Backstory
Devdan tells the story of 2 kids who wander away from their tour group in the jungle and find a chest full of treasures from all over Indonesia. Each treasure holds a key that takes the kids on a journey to 5 Indonesian islands: Bali, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Papua, each represented by a cultural story told in dance.
The word Devdan comes from the Sanskrit ‘Deva’ and ‘Dhana’, which means ‘God's Grace’. The show was launched in 2011 and has since been performed over a thousand times. It is still among Indonesia’s most popular shows and is regularly performed for Government officials. Devdan won the Indonesian Travel and Tourism Award in 2014.
