Kuta Beach

A popular holiday destination attracting visitors from as close as Southeast Asia and Australia and as far away as Europe and the USA. This is undoubtedly one of the busiest beaches on the Island of Gods.

Beach activities include surfing on waves beyond the reef (including learn to surf schools), snorkeling around the reef, swimming in the calmer waters of the bay, and relaxing on rented deckchairs with an ice cold Bingtang. Beach vendors sell everything from watches and sunglasses, to food and drinks, to hair braiding and massages. Learn to say a firm “no” if you want to be left to enjoy the beach in peace.

Insider Tips For Kuta Beach

  • When hiring any equipment like surfboards, body boards, or snorkeling gear take clear photographs of the items condition so you can’t be charged for pre-existing damage upon return.
  • Bartering is expected so don’t accept the first price offered by beach vendors. If you can’t quickly agree on price, walk away as you’ll likely find the same item from another vendor.

Backstory

Located on Bali’s southwest coast, Kuta Beach was originally a fishing village which endangered green turtles used to frequent. After WWII the beach became popular among visiting surfers, and then by backpackers enjoying this white sandy coastline and peaceful culture as they travelled through Southeast Asia.
