Backstory
El Mercardo opened in December 2015, offering Bangkok's food connoisseurs a European-style market with fresh produce, a bakery, an extensive wine cellar, and a bonus dine-in restaurant serving home-style recipes using produce from the market.
The grocery market now has 2 locations, the restaurant premises on Soi Phai Singtho, and a second location on Soi Suan Phlu.
El Mercardo is an equal opportunities employer, offering job opportunities to people with learning differences.
Scorecard
- Combination of local and imported produce. Fresh fruit and vegetables are locally sourced while longer-life products like pasta and meat are imported for quality.
- Wine cellar with large variety of imported wine.
- Grocery market to purchase deli-style meat, cheeses, baked goods, more. Tastings are often available.
- Relaxed atmosphere at courtyard seating area.
- No service charges. Leave a tip if you're happy with the service.
- Set lunch menu including an entrée, main, and dessert.
- No individual menus and communal blackboard menu which is not visible from all tables. Standing near other tables trying to read the menu can feel awkward.
- Limited dietary information on menu.
- Tight seating spaces. Indoor and outdoor areas can feel crowded at times.
- Some expensive menu items, especially imported meat.
