Colored flowers and sashes often adorn the bow of longtail boats. In Thailand, it is believed that every tree houses a guardian spirit. Once cut and built into a longtail, the spirit lives within the body of the boat to protect it. These decorations pay respect to the spirits and the goddess who also protects boats, named Mae Ya Nang.
