Langkawi isn't just about the beaches. Some of the island's most beautiful sunsets are experienced over endless green rice fields with the towering Machinchang mountain range in the distance. Guests of Sunset Valley Holiday Houses have this exquisite scene as their backyard.
6 self-contained wooden homes allow you to taste traditional Malay village life without sacrificing modern comforts like a kitchen and a large bathroom with a shower screen (a luxury in Langkawi!). Most of the houses were relocated and renovated, the oldest being the 180-year-old Paddy House.
Each villa features a cozy private lounge area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a patio. Guests can also access shared areas including a larger dining area, a kitchen with ovens, a small retail store, a barbecue area, and a swimming pool with views over rice paddies.

What's Nearby
Kota Mahsuri (Mahsuri's Tomb)
A historical and cultural complex that portrays local village life during the time of Mahsuri who, according to one of Langkawi's most revered legends, was a wrongly-accused woman who cursed the island with her dying breath. Set against thriving rice fields, the complex includes cultural music and dance performances, live plays, and a museum dedicated to Mahusuri. The heroine's tomb, a reconstruction of her home, and the well said to be the source of her famed beauty are also within the complex.

MARDI Agrotechnology Park
This 35-hectare farming complex is dedicated to agricultural research, but opens part of its fruit farm to tourists. See over 20 tropical fruit varieties, including rare locally-grown grapes, mango, jackfruit, and rambutan, all organically grown. Visitors are escorted around the complex on a 30-minute tram tour, making several stops to learn about current projects or varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. The tour ends with a tasting at the fruit buffet.

Taman Lagenda (Lagenda Park)
50-hectares of elaborate, landscaped gardens between Langkawi's mascot, Eagle Square, and Pekan Rabu Pier. The parklands are most famous for the 17 colorful larger-than-life sculptures depicting local legends and folklore stories. The park entrance features a stone wall portraying the tectonic plate movement that formed Langkawi and a map of the UNESCO-protected island. Also, in the parklands are shaded pathways, 4 man-made lakes, and a quiet sandy beach where locals come to picnic.

Dataran Lang (Eagle Square)
Standing at 12-meters high (39.3 feet), this commanding statue is inspired by Langkawi's namesake sea eagle. Poised to take flight, the statue is the focal point of the waterfront Dataran Lang, a star-shaped plaza located on Kuah Bay, and is one of the first sights to greet visitors arriving via ferry or cruise ship.
14.48 kms (9.05 miles) Driving time: 23 mins
Gunung Raya (Mount Raya)
At the center of Langkawi's mountainous landscape sits Gunung Raya, the tallest peak at 881 meters (2,890 feet) high. Visitors can access the mountain’s summit via road or by climbing 4,287 steep steps, called Tangga Helang Seribu Kenangan, or Thousand Memory Eagle Stairs. Climbers are best positioned to experience Gunung Raya's impenetrable rainforest habitat, formed atop the 220-200-million-year-old granite foundation.
